What Actually Gets Migrated
A complete Zoho-to-Tally migration covers everything Tally needs to represent your books accurately — not just a transaction dump.
- Ledgers & Masters — Customers, vendors, tax ledgers and chart-of-accounts mapping, cleaned and de-duplicated before import.
- Sales & Purchase Vouchers — Every invoice, credit/debit note and return, mapped to the correct Tally voucher type.
- Receipts & Payments — Bank and cash entries linked back to the invoices they settle, not left as unreconciled lines.
- Opening Balances — Ledger and stock opening balances as of your cut-over date, so day one in Tally already ties out.
How to Do It Yourself: Step-by-Step
You dont need to hand this to anyone — tally-integration.in connects directly to your Zoho Books account over API, so you can run the migration yourself in about ten minutes. Heres the exact process.
- Generate your Zoho API credentials
In a separate tab, open the Zoho API Console and sign in with your Zoho account.- Click Add Client -? Self Client, and note down the Client ID and Client Secret it generates.
- Then open the Generate Code tab, enter the scope
ZohoBooks.fullaccess.all, add a description, and click Create — this gives you a one-time Code. It expires within minutes, so keep this tab open until you reach Step 6. - Also note your Organization ID, found in Zoho Books under Settings -? Organization Profile.
- Sign up at tally-integration.in
Create your account and log in. - Choose your workspace
After login choose, Right side Accounting Tools interface (Green Coloured). - Add your company
Go to Company List and add your Company if not added before. - Open Accounting Softwares -? Zoho Books
From the sidebar, expand Accounting Softwares and choose ZohoBooks. - Connect & verify
Choose your Organization from the dropdown at the top, then paste the Client ID, Client Secret, Organization ID and Code from Step 1 into the API Credentials panel and click Update & Verify. The platform exchanges your Code for an access/refresh token pair — once verified, the connection stays live and you wont need to repeat this step. Import into Tally
The actual posting happens inside Tally itself, using the ecom2tally.tcp add-on:- Open Tally Prime / Tally ERP 9 and load ecom2tally.tcp.
- Make sure you have updated PAN in tally default field which is similar to the company added on tally-integration.in.
- From the Gateway of Tally, go to tally-integration.in menu entry to open E-Commerce Integration.
- Choose 1: Login and sign in with your tally-integration.in account.
- Choose 4: Online Accounting Softwares.
- Choose Platform Name to Zoho.
- Pick a Transaction Type — Sales, Receipt, bills, Expense, banking, CreditNote, DebitNote, journal, ChartofAccounts, FixedAsset, customermaster, vendormaster or VendorPayment.
- Set your From Date / To Date, and proceed.
- Repeat the transaction type, date range and proceed step for every module you need, until everything in scope is imported.
Records land directly in Tally as proper vouchers and masters — not generic dumped lines — so your GST returns and MIS reports work exactly as they would on native Tally data.
Because the same connection can be reused, this isnt only a one-time path — leave it connected and repeat step 7 going forward for ongoing Zoho-to-Tally sync, with no second setup.
When to Bring In a Specialist Instead
- Multiple years of backlog. A single connect-and-sync works cleanly for one financial year; several years of legacy data with drift between them benefits from a planned, checked migration.
- Messy or duplicated ledgers. If Zoho and Tally ledger names have already diverged over time, mapping and de-duplication before import saves a much bigger cleanup later.
- Multiple client companies. Accountants and CAs migrating several client books at once often prefer a single coordinated run over doing it company-by-company.
- Sign-off required. Where a reconciled trial balance needs to be verified against Zoho before anyone relies on the new books — audits, statutory filings — that check is built into an assisted migration.
FAQs
How long does a Zoho to Tally migration take?
Doing it yourself through the steps above typically takes under 15 minutes to connect, plus sync time depending on transaction volume. An assisted migration covering multiple years usually completes in a few days once data is exported and mapping is confirmed.
Where do I find my Zoho Organization ID and Code?
Organization ID is in Zoho Books under Settings -? Organization Profile. The code comes from the Generate Code tab of your Self Client in the Zoho API Console — generate it right before Step 6 above, since it expires within minutes.
What is ecom2tally.tcp, and where do I get it?
Its the Tally add-on that adds the tally-integration.in menu to your Gateway of Tally, so imports run directly inside Tally rather than through a separate upload step. It can be downloaded from following link
https://tally-integration.in/ecom2tally.zip
Can I migrate just one financial year, or does it have to be everything?
Either — set your Sync Period to just the year you need, or run it multiple times for different ranges. Many businesses migrate only the current or two most recent years and keep older years archived in Zoho for reference.
Will my GST filings still be accurate after migration?
Yes — records sync in as proper Tally voucher types with their tax breakup intact, which is what keeps GST returns accurate. For an assisted migration, this is also one of the specific checks done before sign-off.
Do I need to stop using Zoho during the migration?
No — Zoho keeps running normally. The migration is a copy of your data into Tally as of your chosen sync period, not a live cutover of your working system.
